   Christianity in Southeastern India

  • Religion by Percentage.
The people of Andhra Pradesh are 85% Hindu, 12.5% Muslim, and only 2.5% Christian.

  • Theistic Worldview.
Ritualism is predominant; Jesus is most easily accepted as "a god".

  • Stigmas.
Viewed as a non-Indian religion, Christianity is widely considered less-legitimate.

  • Legal Discrimination.
Under the law, Christians cannot adopt orphans, and are denied certain government benefits.

  • Cultural Hinduism.
The language, anecdotal metaphor, and thought is set in a Hindu frame of reference.
The challenges faced by those who chose to follow Christ seem overwhelming. They are the same challenges faced by the Apostles and Apostolic Fathers.
